Co-founded and run by Lucy Player and Christopher Wolf, our business has changed shape, size and location since we started in 2016 – yet our sole objective of creating a positive impact through our work has remained.
Regardless of shape or size, we always intend to work in a way that is low-impact, flexible, and nurturing, and have been a 4-day-week company for a number of years.
2024 saw us stay small – by design. Lucy and Chris lead every project, collaborating with trusted developers, copywriters, illustrators and animators. By doing so, our partners know they’ll work directly with two experienced designers throughout the entire process, guaranteeing high-level expertise at every stage. You can read more about our ethos here: ‘Why bigger isn’t always better’.
2024 Highlights
2024 saw us settle into our new, fully remote set-up, based out of low-impact home offices in Birmingham and Leeds in the UK. It was important to set up improved digital project management processes that are geared towards remote working and made the switch to Notion.
We may be remote with no central studio space, but that doesn’t mean we don’t still meet up to collaborate and connect – and when we do so, we ensure it’s as low-impact as possible.
In 2024 we met at co-working spaces including fellow B Corps Second Home and Work.Life, travelling by public transport or EV.
Having established an Advisory Board in 2022 (read more in ‘Why this small design studio appointed an Advisory Board’), we continued to hold Board meetings throughout 2024. It was a transitional year for our business, relaunching with a new strategy and identity in May, and our Board were a valuable source of guidance and perspective during the process.
We often work with skilled contractors in the delivery of our projects. Our selection process is discrimination-free, but we do have a screening survey in place to ensure our collaborators are ethically aligned with our values. In 2024 we ensured that all contractors and freelancers were paid more than the UK National Living Wage (or equivalent), regardless of where they are globally.
Plans for 2025
As a screen-based business, it’s important to maintain a connection with nature and the outdoors and remind ourselves of the world we are seeking to protect. From 2025, we look to arrange annual nature-based away days where we can connect with our environment as well as each other.
Now that we are fully based out of home offices, we are keen to develop better ways of tracking our combined energy usage. And with better tracking can come more targeted ways of reducing our impact.
