When we leave our desks, we don’t leave our values behind.
We have a genuine desire – and a responsibility – to contribute beyond the work itself. That means donating a percentage of our revenue to environmental causes, giving our time to community initiatives, and showing up to the conversations happening across our industry.
In 2025 we formalised our volunteering for the first time, continued our membership of 1% for the Planet, and attended a broader range of events than ever before – from grassroots sustainability meet-ups to international conferences.
2025 highlights
This year we pushed forward on our commitment to give back to the communities we live and work in. Early in 2025 Lucy began volunteering with Incredible Edible Leeds, getting involved in community gardening and growing projects. Chris has been engaging with his local Birmingham sustainability network, and has volunteered to join the Board of Directors at Community Energy Birmingham in 2026.
Members of 1% for the Planet since 2022, we made our annual donation of 1% of sales to environmental organisations in their partner network. This year we directed our donation to Incredible Edible and Flight Free UK.
Through a rich programme of events across the year, we gained insight, inspiration, and connection with others working at the intersection of sustainability and business. This year that included:
- Green Tech Gathering
- People, Planet, Pint (Leeds, London, and Birmingham)
- ReGeneration Earth
- Blue Earth Summit
- SUSTAIN Unconference
Plans for the future
We believe the IX design methodology has the potential to improve how our industry serves mission-driven organisations meaningfully. In our experience, the wrong design logic is too often applied to for-impact projects – leaving organisations with websites that underperform against their goals. Our aim in 2026 is to share IX more widely: with our peers, our industry, and anyone trying to build websites that need to make an impact.
The Carbon Literacy Project offers an accredited training programme specifically designed for people working in digital and technology. It covers the science of climate change, its impact on the sector, and practical actions to reduce emissions. Completing this training would deepen our own understanding of the environmental challenges facing our industry, and give us a stronger foundation for the conversations we have with our peers and clients.
We want to give something back to our clients and community. In 2026, we plan to develop and run free online ‘Impact Maker’ webinars to share the principles and best practice of impact-centred, low-carbon and accessible web design. Targeted at those working in mission-driven organisations as well as purpose-led designers and students each session will be intended to help build the awareness, understanding and skills for designing digital platforms for positive impact.
